Legalserver Continues to Lead and Innovate with Solutions for Smarter Legal Aid Case Management Software

After a tremendous 2017 with 41 new clients, the forward momentum continues with LegalServer as we add new civil legal aid clients in 2018, work with public defenders, and build solutions around artificial intelligence (AI) for the civil and criminal legal communities - Houston.AI.

The end of 2017 culminated in a re-launch of LegalServer.org to promote the work we are doing with case management solutions for public defenders. With all of the knowledge and expertise gained over the years working with non-profit legal aid organizations, it is a natural evolution for LegalServer to be working with the public defender community.

One of the many LegalServer benefits is optimizing workload for the staff. With LegalServer ‘Levels of Service’ by case type, an associated baseline of time to complete a case is continually updated as the various case types are worked to completion. Supervising attorneys can better allocate case loads to the staff based on the ‘Level of Service’ entered at intake, providing insights for assigning cases and improved case distribution.

Houston.AI is an API-driven platform (web portal) that offers a growing suite of technologies (including artificial intelligence) to support the justice community in delivering legal services to low income people/families. Houston.AI is continuously developing, refining and re-training a set of machine learning algorithms to better “understand” (and then classify/translate into important legal concepts) the words and sentences lay people use to describe themselves and their legal problems.

By introducing AI into the case management environment, legal aid and public defender organizations will be able to automate the triage and priority level of cases, better utilizing resources to making a difference.
